I set my controls then load a rom, and my control settings no longer work
The profile for the rom loaded has control settings in it. Load the rom, pause, set the controls, then select "Cartridge Profile" and "Update" to remove or replace the controls saved
There is no sound, but sound is on, and the volume is at full
The sound controls in PocketVCS are internal to the program, and have no effect on the PDA settings. Exit the program and ensure your PDA sound is on, and at a good volume.
I can't see a ball, or other item in a certain game
The object is interlaced by the Atari unit. Turn interlacing on. If the object is still not visible, select the interlace invert mode
Change the palette settings, as some colors may not be visible on your PDA
Onscreen controls for paddle, joystick, etc are not visible in Landscape modes
There is no room for these controls. The paddle onscreen will function, and the screen can also be used as a fire button.
Sound is broken or noisy
The sound buffer setting is too low for this rom. Please move the slider to the right and try again.
Sound is too slow, but the graphics seem to be at full speed
The sound buffer is too large. Please move the slider to the left and try again. If the music still seems slow, increase skipframes.
Colors are all wrong
There are two available palettes. One is true to the VCS hardware, the other is enhanced to simulate a real image that would have been seen. Try both
I load a game, and the unit defaults into landscape mode, although I had selected Portrait
The Profile File has settings for this rom to select Landscape. After loading the rom, reselect the orientation, and update the profile file
Game XXXX won't run
All known cartridge types are supported, and only one known game is not functional: Pharoah's Curse (graphics errors). Try a new rom
Pitfall II does not work
Yes, it does! But you need the full 10k version of the rom.
I have to use Interlacing to get part of the display (radar, etc) to work, but would like the rest of the screen to be left alone. Can this be done?
YES! In fact all you need to do is edit the following lines to your profile file under the rom in question:
"PocketVCS.Display.InterlaceYStart" "0""PocketVCS.Display.InterlaceYEnd" "200"
Set the YStart to the line (0-200) that you want interlacing to start at, and YEnd to the last line. Once set, email me the profile update and it can be incorporated in the main release.
Install to MAIN MEMORY only
Do not install to the emulator to external Card Storage - if you do the menu system will slow to a crawl !!
No guarantee that all machines are supported
As Pocket VCS is freeware we cannot support all machines due to hardware differences. Please do not email us asking why "it doesn't work on a XXX machine".
Uninstall previous versions first !
Due to changes from version 1.0, please ensure that you uninstall previous version of Pocket VCS first. Don't forget to backup your "pocketvcs.pro" file if you have saved personal preferences !
Where can I download Atari 2600 games?
Atari Age is a good place to look. Please only use rom disk image files if you own the original machine or software. Clickgamer cannot be held responsible for any misuse.
